The geopark networks of the V4 countries (Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia) - at the initiative of the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Environment Agency - signed a declaration of intent for cooperation („Memorandum of Cooperation among the Visegrad Group Geoparks“) at an international meeting held in Banská Štiavnica (Selmecbánya) on May 10, 2023.
The aim of the cooperation is for the networks to share their experiences with each other in the creation, operation and development of geoparks at the national level and with their UNESCO Global Geoparks, and to act together in order to increase the awareness of the geoparks. All of the V4 geoparks had their representatives taking part in the meeting.
On behalf of the Hungarian Geopark National Committee, President Bertalan Balczó signed the memorandum. The official news was published on the website of the Nature Conservancy.
In addition to the two Hungarian UNESCO Global Geoparks (the transnational Novohrad-Nógrád and the Bakony-Balaton), representatives of the aspirant Bükk-region Geopark also participated in the 2-day intensive conference interspersed with field trips in the Banská Štiavnica Geopark.
