Carlotta

Sziasztok!

Szia, my name is Carlotta, I am 19 years old, come from Berlin in Germany and just finished high-school.
I love to express myself in any creative way. I sew a lot, build stuff, draw much and always come up with new ideas what to do or learn next. I also really enjoy spending time with friends, going to the cinema or theater and spending time outside, biking or hiking.

I am part of the kulturweit program, and I am happy to have the opportunity to be a volunteer in the Bükk geopark. Kulturweit is a German volunteer service and is part of the German UNESCO Commission.
Together with Lina I am going to stay in Miskolc for the next 6 month, from September until February. We're mostly going to be in the szeleta visitor center, but also in a school in Miskolc to help in the German lessons and hopefully a lot outside! :)
We are also doing a course to learn Hungarian in our time here. I hope at the end I will be able to talk a bit or even understand something and can hear were a word starts and were it ends.

I applied to the Kulturweit Program because after school I just wanted to get away from everything I already knew too good. I wanted to get in touch with other people and get to know a country but from a completely different perspective than by just traveling somewere. I was especially interested in the nature part of the kulturweit program, because I myself really enjoy and get a lot of energy out of spending time in nature. I always feel so different and much more present just by being surrounded by trees. Other than myself enjoying being in nature I was also interested in all the people and organizations that take care of the nature, especially in times were there are so many crisis harming nature.

In the next 6 month I hope I will learn how they are taking care, why and with wish goals or motivation. I hope I will learn a lot about the geopark, the nature and everything that comes with it.

Sziasztok!

Sziasztok! My name is Lina, I’m 24 years old and am now living in Miskolc for the next 6 months. I grew up in and around Berlin before I moved to different places to study. My last stop was Lund, a small city in Sweden, where I finished my Master’s in „Human Ecology – Power, Culture, and Sustainability”. To gain practical experience after years of theoretical study, I applied to the naturweit program of kulturweit and ended up in the beautiful mountainous area of Bükk National Park. So, for the next months, I hope to get to know the place through the people and its nature by learning from both of them and their different relationships. I’m excited for this experience and engaging in another nature/culture; learning Hungarian a bit (I know it’s difficult); meeting new people, species, and stones, which are all unique to this area.

Well, being a volunteer in the Geopark is “not only” a work experience. I am a very curious human being who likes to travel, meet and see new places, trying to understand the world and how all beings can live well in it (I also studied philosophy in my bachelor’s, so I’m always a bit philosophical by nature). I love to read, dance, make music, cook delicious vegan food, swim, and share letters with friends.

I hope to also use my experience here to let other people know about this place in North-East Hungary.

While I am here, I will have to look for some job opportunities in Germany as well. Pray that I will find something where I can connect my social science and nature knowledge to transform our society into a more just and sustainable present and future. For now, I feel like I’m on the right way!
