History and value

Next to the former sawmill is a geologically valuable sandstone wall that reveals the lower Miocene strata that settled in the sea about 21 million years ago. The sandstone layers are obliquely layered, suggesting a shallow seawater flow near the shore. The sandstone also contains significant amounts of tiny shell fragments, which, however, are easily crushed due to their soft retention. The reddish coloration of the excavation results from iron-containing crusts. The excavation is stratigraphically classified as the sandstone of the Romhányi Section.

At the excavation site, to which a dirt road leads, there is a periodically operating lumber yard.Degree of protection: 1
